British Spook set to be the next Batman

Midweek Sport - - NEWS -

BRIT actor Richard Armitage is the shock favourite to replace Christian Bale as Batman, according to Hollywood sources.

The Leicester-born star of BBC One’s Spooks is reportedly close to being cast in the role by new director Zach Synder.

Top U.S. magazine The Hollywood Reporter claims Snyder, 47, wants a grumpy, ageing Batman who is ‘in his late 30s or around the 40 mark’, while also being ‘established and rugged’.

And Armitage ( above) – who got his big movie break in last year’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey playing dwarf leader Thorin – fits the bill at the age of 41.

Another thesp high on Zynder’s wish list is thought to be 46-yearold Josh Brolin, who is also due to appear in the director’s upcoming Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For.

Batman will make his next big screen appearance taking on Superman in a sequel to Man Of Steel.

Bale, 39, has stepped away from the Gothambased franchise.
