Stalker jailed for sex attack on drunk girl
A STALKER who sexually attacked a lone woman in a dark alley has been jailed.
Grant Newcombe, 42, pushed the drunken victim to the floor and put his hand over her mouth – until she bit him and he ran off.
But a court heard he had pulled down her knickers and tried to push her legs apart.
A jury at Plymouth Crown Court cleared Newcombe ( above) of attempted rape but convicted him of sexual assault.
The local man had denied both offences in the early hours of August 29, 2011, as the woman had enjoyed a night out clubbing.
He claimed they exchanged smiles and kisses and admitted going too far with his advances but said he stopped when told.
The victim said he suddenly appeared in a dark alleyway and ripped down her underwear and she thought she was “going to be raped”.
The court heard she bit his hand and he ran off. He gave himself up to police after CCTV of him appeared in a local newspaper.
Judge Paul Darlow jailed Newcombe for three years and three months. He was given a ten year sexual offences prevention order and put on the Sex Offenders’ register for life.
