GARETH McAULEY is out to wreck Fabio Capello’s World Cup dream.

Northern Ireland host Russia in a qualifying game that’s been r escheduled after being snowed offin March.

The winless Irish have all but given up hope of making next year’s finals in Brazil – but McAuley insists that won’t stop Michael O’Neill’s men trying to derail Russia’s bid for top spot in the group.

Capello’s side easily won the reverse fixture 2-0, and victory tonight will put them back on top.

But with Palermo striker Kyle Lafferty back fr om suspension, West Brom defender McAuley

is confident of springing a surprise. He said: “To me this game’s winnable.

“We had a few chances against them in Moscow and hopefully we’ve learned from that for this game. “They have creative players but it’s up to us to deal with that and hurt them at the other end. “They’ll pr ess us high and that will give us a chance to do a lot of damage in behind.”

Russia trail Por tugal by two points, but have two games in hand. Capello said: “We know the importance of this game and I couldn’t be happier with the way the players have appr oached what will be a tough match.”
