Clichy sold on idea of joining Yanks
GAEL CLICHY’S Manchester City future is in doubt after the left-back admitted he would be tempted by a move to Major League Soccer.
The 28-year-old defender said former Arsenal team-mate Thierry Henry, currently at New York Red Bulls, has sold him on the idea of playing in America.
France international Clichy joined City on a free transfer from Arsenal in 2011 and has two years left on his contract at the Etihad.
“Thierry says he loves New York. It makes you think that, if the opportunity comes, why not try MLS?” said Clichy.
“The chance to be a part of a new league that is growing bigger and bigger year after year – that’s a great challenge.
“The way he’s talking about it means that he loves it. It makes me want to try it if the possibility comes.”
City boss Manuel Pellegrini is poised to launch a bid to sign Valencia defender Adil Rami if he fails
in his attempt to land Martin Demichelis.
Pellegrini has been frustrated in trying to do a £5million deal for Atletico Madrid’s Demichelis, with Valencia ready to sell Rami for around £6m.
