Weed farm OAP dope
A HARD-UP pensioner turned to farming WEED in a bid to save his family from being saddled with his debt when he died.
Sydney Youngs, 74, was left desperate and anxious that a £10,000 bank loan he had taken out while working would burden his family.
So the charity shop volunteer started growing cannabis at his home in Bridlington, East Yorks.
After retiring at 60 he had spiralled into further debt and failed to pay off an earlier loan.
When a man told him about the money-making scheme, Youngs turned his home into a large scale farm which yielded £115,000 of the drug, when police raided it on May 19.
At Hull Crown Court he was given a two-year jail sentence, suspended for two years.
