Catherine’s set to be a Godmother

Midweek Sport - - NEWS -

CATHERINE Zeta Jones will play a real-life CRIME BOSS in a new big-screen drama.

The 45-year-old Welsh actress ( above) will appear as gangster Griselda Blanco in The Godmother.

Blanco was the first and only woman to rise to the higher echelons of Colombia’s ruthless Medellin drug cartel.

She was a fearsome figure at the centre of the Miami drug wars of the 1970s and 1980s and ordered hundreds of assassinations during her reign of terror.

An insider revealed: “It’s a fantastic role for Catherine. Blanco was completely ruthless.”

Blanco – nicknamed La Madrina (The Black Widow) and the Cocaine Godmother – rose from her roots as a penniless prostitute to head a huge drug distribution network.

After her arrest in 1985, the mum-of-four served 18 years in prison before being released in 2004.

She was deported back to Colombia where she was killed in a motorcycle drive-by assassination in 2012.

THE stage of the Haskell opera house is in Vermont, USA, while the audience sit in Stanstead,

Quebec.
