Training day for me and my boy

Midweek Sport - - NEWS -

LAST week I did a special course at my son’s school to help with his autism.

It is called ABA – Applied Behaviour Analysis – and is designed to help communicate with children with autism.

Some people are really sceptical about it, but to be honest I will try anything that will help my son.

It is a way of almost “training” them like you would with a dog. You ask them to do something and if they do it they get a treat.

I am using giant chocolate buttons and he is doing really well.

People might say it is treating children like animals but research has shown that being taught in this way really suits their brains.

I got a certificate for completing the course which I am really proud of and I am going to keep on doing it as long as I see it benefitting my boy.

My son’s school is the only one in the country which follows ABA and I really think more awareness should be made about it and the benefits of it.

Every year the number of autistic children is rising and I think more needs to be done to help these kids.
