Bale will be Wales’ greatest, says Giggs

GARETH BALE has been tipped to become Wales’ greatest footballer – by Ryan Giggs.

The world’s most expensive player (right) inspired the 10-man Dragons to a vital 2-1 Euro 2016 qualifying win over Cyprus in Cardiff on Monday night.

That hard-fought victory kept unbeaten Wales on top of Group B.

Giggs, Neville Southall, John Charles and Ian Rush are all considered Wales greats of yesteryear.

But Manchester United assistant boss Giggs reckons £86million Real Madrid superstar Bale is “world class” and can surpass that quartet to hit even greater heights.

Giggs said: “I think he could be the best Welsh player.”

Giggs, 40, briefly played alongside Bale for Wales before the flying winger retired from the international scene in 2007 after winning 64 caps.

He added: “Gareth can be as good as he wants to be because he’s such an amazing talent. He can go all the way.

“He’s playing at a great club and he’s doing it week in, week out, and he’s doing it for Wales as well.

“You don’t want to big him up too much, but he’s looking like he can handle it all. He’s stepping up – he has to deliver at Real Madrid where the expectation is huge and the pressure is on.

“It’s been a massive learning curve for him over the last season, but he’s lived up to every expectation and more.

“And not only that, he’s a great lad who wants to get better and wants to be the best.”
