PETER WRIGHT believes he has been transformed into a wanted man after his sudden rise to the top.

Zany-haired Wright reached the final of the world championship last year, but his form has dipped since soaring to No.4 in the world rankings.

He hopes to find his best form in this weekend’s European Championship in Muelheim, Germany, where he plays Dutch rookie Benito van de Pas.

“I’ve got a target on my back now,” said Wright. “However, I’m world No.4 and it’s about time I started playing like it.

“There’s five or six television tournaments coming up before the end of the year and I want to get back into form for them.” Adrian Lewis was crowned Euro king last year and begins his defence against Jelle Klaasen.

Bookies’ favourite Michael van Gerwen take on Justin Pipe and Phil Taylor has drawn Steve Beaton in the competition being screened on ITV4.
