WARNING: Jose Fonte JONAS GUTIERREZ is on the verge of making an amazing Newcastle return.

Toon’s Argentinian winger hopes to be named in the squad for the Premier League trip to Hull at the end of January – less than three months after beating cancer.

Gutierrez is back in full training after being given the all-clear in November following treatment for testicular cancer.

The 31-year-old further pressed his claims for a senior return by scoring for the Under-21s in front of watching caretaker boss John Carver in the 1-1 draw with Bolton.

Gutierrez hasn’t played a senior game for Newcastle for 15 months and is out of contract at the end of the season.

And he insisted: “The most important thing is to get fit and to play games.”

Club officials have denied making contact with former 48-year-old Bayer Leverkusen boss Bruno Labbadia.

Carver is set to continue in his caretaker role until the end of the season, with former Lyon coach Remi Garde favourite to take over in the summer.

But the delay is not going down well with some players.

Dutch defender Daryl Janmaat said: “It will be better for everyone when the club makes a statement to say who is going to be the new coach.

“If it is John Carver, then that’s good, we like him.

“I think he can do a good job, but it will be better once there’s an official statement.”
