FRED THE WEATHERMAN’S ‘ORAL SEX ON BOY,14’ Court told of string of sex attacks
TELLY weatherman Fred Talbot masturbated a 14-year-old male pupil “many times” – and once performed oral sex on him at a party, a court heard.
Talbot, 65, used his “boundless energy” and “extrovert personality” to help gain the affection and trust of five schoolboys he sexually abused, a jury has been told.
The former ITV This Morning weather forecaster – famous for jumping around a map of the United Kingdom – is said to have indecently assaulted his victims between the late 1960s and early 80s during his former career as a teacher.
Four of the complainants were teens at Altrincham Grammar School for Boys, where Talbot taught biology.
The first complainant to give evidence, who cannot be named, said he first met Talbot when he was a pupil at Elgin Senior High School in Gateshead.
He told the jury at Manchester Crown Court that he regularly visited Talbot’s bedsit near Newcastle and eventually shared a bed with him.
He said he was “stunned” on the first occasion when he said the then trainee teacher indecently assaulted him.
After climbing into bed Talbot began “manoeuvring and pushing bodily”, he said.
The witness continued: “It was like a pushing movement and eventually someone being beside and on top of me.
“He was touching, rubbing my chest, touching my genitals, getting aroused. Putting his hand in my underwear... eventually masturbating me.”
Asked about his reaction, the complainant said: “I was stunned. I was 14 years old, I was inexperienced. I had had no sexual activity before. I was confused.”
He said sexual activity followed at the bedsit between the pair “many more times” in the same pattern as before and also when he stayed at Talbot’s mother’s home.
The witness went on to say that Talbot touched and fondled him in the darkness at a local cinema “throughout the performance”, and that Talbot performed oral sex on him at a ball at his teacher training college.
Opening the case earlier, prosecutor Neil Usher told jurors they would know Talbot as ‘ Fred the Weatherman’, he added: “The very qualities that made Fred Talbot so successfulas a TV celebrity – his boundless energy, his infectious enthusiasm, his extrovert personality – helped him gain, we say, the trust of these boys.”
Talbot, of Bowdon, Gtr Manchester, denies 10 counts of indecent assault.
The trial, expected to last up to four weeks, continues. ENERGY: Fred on TV weather map
