‘Wicked’ petrol at­tack boyfriend jailed for 15yrs

A FURIOUS boyfriend who doused his part­ner in petrol, set her alight and trapped her in a burn­ing flat has been jailed.

Re­becca Ma­jor, 32, jumped for her life from the flat above a shop she shared with Ed­ward McArthur af­ter flames blocked her es­cape route.

She suf­fered 40% burns and a frac­tured skull and ster­num in the fall.

McArthur, 40, lost his tem­per in a row at their home in Dar­ling­ton in Au­gust last year, and told her: “You’ll pay for this”.

He poured petrol on her head and into her eyes and then started two fires in the flat and fled, be­fore lock­ing the front door.

At Teesside Crown Court the judge told McArthur: “Your in­ten­tion was to dis­fig­ure. As she was scream­ing for help you walked out. You car­ried out a wicked act.”

McArthur was jailed for 15 years and six months af­ter ad­mit­ting griev­ous bod­ily harm with in­tent and ar­son with in­tent to en­dan­ger life.

He was also given a fur­ther 12 weeks for breach­ing a sus­pended sen­tence.
