‘Wicked’ petrol attack boyfriend jailed for 15yrs
A FURIOUS boyfriend who doused his partner in petrol, set her alight and trapped her in a burning flat has been jailed.
Rebecca Major, 32, jumped for her life from the flat above a shop she shared with Edward McArthur after flames blocked her escape route.
She suffered 40% burns and a fractured skull and sternum in the fall.
McArthur, 40, lost his temper in a row at their home in Darlington in August last year, and told her: “You’ll pay for this”.
He poured petrol on her head and into her eyes and then started two fires in the flat and fled, before locking the front door.
At Teesside Crown Court the judge told McArthur: “Your intention was to disfigure. As she was screaming for help you walked out. You carried out a wicked act.”
McArthur was jailed for 15 years and six months after admitting grievous bodily harm with intent and arson with intent to endanger life.
He was also given a further 12 weeks for breaching a suspended sentence.
