PEAKY Blin­ders star He­len McCrory has been named best ac­tress at this year’s Crit­ics’ Cir­cle The­atre Awards.

The ac­tress, who is mar­ried to Wolf Hall and Home­land star Damian Lewis, tri­umphed for her ti­tle role in an­cient Greek tragedy Medea, at the Na­tional The­atre.

Mark Strong won best ac­tor for his per­for­mance in the Arthur Miller play A View From The Bridge, at Lon­don’s Young Vic the­atre and Wyn­d­ham’s The­atre.

A View From The Bridge won two gongs at this year’s awards, also tak­ing best di­rec­tor for Ivo Van Hove.

An­thony Sher took the award for best Shake­spearean per­for­mance for the Royal Shake­speare Com­pany’s pro­duc­tion of the epic Henry IV Parts I &II.

King Charles III Mike Bartlett was crowned best new play and Gypsy, star­ring Imelda Staunton at the Almeida The­atre, Lon­don, won the award for best mu­si­cal. THE year 2020 is the next time you can see a full moon on Hal­loween night.
