The im­pact of Besic has been one of the few bright spots in a frus­trat­ing sea­son for the Tof­fees since his sign­ing from Hungarian club Ferenc­varos.

The Bos­nia in­ter­na­tional has be­come a crowd favourite with his com­mit­ted per­for­mances in a mid­field hold­ing role.

And Martinez, who landed the 22-year-old for a bar­gain £5mil­lion, be­lieves he will only get bet­ter af­ter be­ing con­verted from a cen­tral de­fender.

Martinez in­sisted: “Muhamed is still a player that is shap­ing up his qual­i­ties.

“Since com­ing here, he has taken mas­sive strides in im­prov­ing his tac­ti­cal aware­ness.

“Some­thing he will never be short of is tech­ni­cal abil­ity, ball con­trol and his pass­ing range.
