Celtic striker’s ‘Elvis assault’ trial delayed

Midweek Sport - - NEWS -

FOOTBALL star Anthony Stokes must wait until next year before facing trial for an alleged assault of an Elvis impersonator.

The Celtic and Republic of Ireland striker was due for trial this week at Dublin’s Circuit Criminal Court.

But the hearing had to be delayed because no judges were available to take the case.

Lawyers for the 26-year-old Dubliner, who has been on bail since last year, asked for the case to be put in for mention again in six weeks’ time.

But Judge Martin Nolan put the case back to January 20 next year.

Father-of-one Stokes appeared in court in a grey suit, white shirt and purple tie.

He was accompanied by his long-term girlfriend Debbie Lawlor.

The footballer, who lives in Glasgow, is charged with assault causing harm to Anthony Bradley, 42, at Buck Whaley’s nightclub in Dublin on June 8, 2013. TWENTY per cent
