HELLO, ME OLD CHINA!
THE Chinese President yesterday met with Prince Charles and Camilla, ahead of the ceremonial welcome on Horse Guards Parade in central London.
Xi Jinping ( left) and his wife Madame Peng Liyuan were greeted by the Prince of Wales on behalf of the Queen in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.
It was seen as a diplomatically sensitive occasion – Charles hasn’t had an easy relationship with Chinese leaders in the past.
Although a TV camera and a photographer captured part of the encounter between the future king and the Communist leader, no UK reporters were invited to witness the occasion.
Charles was seen smiling as he shook hands with Mr Xi and the pair were also shown sitting and chatting on a sofa, as Charles spoke through an interpreter.
It was the start of a day of engagements for Charles and Mr Xi – minus the showcase state banquet last night.
Charles was focusing on one-to-one talks with Mr Xi instead.
He escorted the president by car to Horse Guards for the pomp and pageantry of the official welcome by the Queen.
