Missing Ben Nevis climbers search halted
A HUGE search for two experienced climbers missing on Britain’s highest mountain was yesterday suspended due to “treacherous” weather.
Rachel Slater, 24, and Tim Newton, 27, from Bradford, West Yorks, were climbing on Ben Nevis, in the Scottish Highlands, at the weekend.
The alarm was raised on Monday afternoon when the couple were late in returning from the expedition.
A massive hunt for the pair – involving police, mountain rescue teams and search dogs – was called off after five hours, when conditions became too dangerous.
Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team said 90mph winds had been making the temperature feel like -20C.
