£24m coke haul in fake bananas

A FRUIT wholesaler working for Colombian drug cartels stored more than 100kg of high grade cocaine worth £24million in fake bananas in his warehouse, a court heard.

David Mais, 50, had the bananas delivered to his warehouse in Kent in July 2014.

They had been wrapped in a chemical film to put off sniffer dogs and were located using a ‘treasure map’ sent from Colombia.

The jury at Southwark Crown Court were told Mais worked with Colombian Daniel ValdesJaramillo to have cocaine shipped and delivered to the warehouse.

Jaramillo pleaded guilty to his part of conspiracy.

Mais, of Rochester, Kent, denies conspiracy to evade the prohibition upon the importation of a Class A drug.

The trial continues.
