Clouseau side­kick Burt dies

BURT KWOUK, best known for play­ing Cato in the Pink Pan­ther films, has died at the age of 85.

He ap­peared in seven movies in the se­ries, most fa­mously op­po­site Peter Sell­ers as the in­ept French de­tec­tive In­spec­tor Clouseau, where he would at­tack him at ran­dom mo­ments to keep him on his guard.

Kwouk was born in War­ring­ton and raised in Shang­hai be­fore mov­ing back to Bri­tain to pur­sue his ca­reer as an ac­tor.

Af­ter get­ting his big break in Inn Of The Sixth Hap­pi­ness in 1958, he made big screen ap­pear­ances in three Bond films – Goldfin­ger, You Only Live Twice and the 1967 spoof Casino Royale.

His early TV work in­cluded roles in The Avengers and Dan­ger Man, while he most re­cently joined Harry Hill on his TV Burp and played Chi­nese elec­tri­cian En­twistle in Last Of The Sum­mer Wine.
