Bene­dict to be a Rogue Male

star Bene­dict Cum­ber­batch is set to star in a movie adap­ta­tion of the clas­sic Bri­tish novel

The ac­tor, 40, will also pro­duce the film, which is about an English­man who tries to as­sas­si­nate a Euro­pean dic­ta­tor.

The book’s author Ge­of­frey House­hold, a pro­lific writer of thrillers who died in 1988, later said he in­tended the dic­ta­tor in the 1939 novel to be Hitler.

Cum­ber­batch said: “I am thrilled both as an ac­tor and pro­ducer to be work­ing on bring­ing this most trea­sured of English nov­els to the big screen.”

was pre­vi­ously adapted into a TV film star­ring Peter O’Toole, John Stand­ing and Alas­tair Sim in 1977, and on the big screen with Walter Pid­geon and Ge­orge San­ders in 1941.

Cum­ber­batch’s char­ac­ter is caught and tor­tured after he at­tempts to kill a dic­ta­tor. He re­turns to Eng­land but is hunted by his en­e­mies.
