Mars tartan’s out of this world!

Midweek Sport - - NEWS -

SPACE has gone Scottish after the planet Mars was granted its own tartan.

Prof Charles Cockell designed the checked thread and now the Scottish government have officially registered the ‘Mars’ tartan.

Mr Cockell said: “I decided it would be fun to have a tartan for future Mars exploration.

“I also thought it’d reflect that forward-thinking scientific aspect of Scottish culture.

“The tartan could be worn by those working on Mars, any Scottish people going to Mars, and on Earth by those preparing for Mars expeditions.”

The new tartan for the Red Planet is mainly red but also has four green lines – representing that it is the fourth planet from the Sun.

It also features blue lines – representing its water-rich past – and thick white lines – for its ice caps.
