ICONIC 80s brand Hofmeis­ter – fa­mous for its ‘fol­low the bear’ slo­gan – is be­ing re­launched as a craft beer aimed at hip­sters.

The low-strength lager was axed by brew­ers Scot­tish & New­cas­tle in 2003 as drinkers turned to beers such as Stella Ar­tois and Carls­berg.

Its demise also marked the end of the TV ad­verts in­volv­ing Ge­orge, the Hofmeis­ter bear ( who sported a pork-pie hat and shiny jacket and who was sur­rounded by a group of hardy drinkers.

Fol­low­ing a 13-year hia­tus, the Hofmeis­ter brand is back and is be­ing re­vived as a pre­mium Bavar­ian craft ale.

The new Hofmeis­ter has been made into a five per cent Helles lager, made in Bavaria by a fam­ily-owned brew­ery on the edge of Ebers­berger For­est.
