200k build jobs to go in Brexit

Midweek Sport - - NEWS -

THE building industry stands to lose more than 200,000 workers if there’s a hard Brexit, a report warns.

Even a soft exit could cost the sector 135,000 staff, worsening the country’s skills problem, said consultancy firm Arcadis.

Construction heavily relies on unskilled or semi-skilled labour, unlike other industries, said the report.

A spokesman said: “Missing out on over 200,000 people entering the workforce could mean rising costs for much-needed homes.”
