Pokemon link to crime rise
MOBILE app Pokemon Go swept the country and sent crime rates soaring earlier this year.
According to police, the popular game has been linked to hundreds of crimes, including robberies, sex offences and thefts.
In just five weeks, 105 crimes were reported throughout the country and all were related to gamers avidly trying to ‘catch’ Pokemon.
Instead of catching the mini virtual monsters, many found themselves victims of crimes as they became targets.
A string of offences logged between the UK launch date of the app on July 14, to August 21, included 37 robberies and 32 cases of theft and handling stolen goods.
There were also 22 cases of violence, including four incidents of grievous bodily harm and six sex offences.
