Glenda wows crit­ics as King Lear

OS­CAR-win­ning ac­tress and for­mer MP Glenda Jackson has won a Crit­ics’ Cir­cle The­atre Award for her per­for­mance as King Lear, her first stage role in 25 years.

Jackson, 80, re­ceived glow­ing re­views for her lead­ing role in the pro­duc­tion at Lon­don’s Old Vic the­atre.

She picked up the Trewin award for best Shake­spearean per­for­mance at the cer­e­mony, where win­ners were cho­sen by crit­ics.

It was her first play since giv­ing up act­ing for politics.
