Booze & drugs parties a ‘recipe for disaster’
DRUG-fuelled student super-parties held in houses could lead to a “perfect storm” of mass casualties, it has been warned.
Organised through social media and often unofficially sponsored by drinks companies, the new phenomenon is posing huge risks to the students involved.
They often involve drugs such as cocaine, ketamine and a strain of MDMA health workers say is the strongest they have seen in 20 years.
Now a new partnership in Newcastle – involving the council and police, fire and ambulance services – is promoting Safer Partying videos to raise awareness.
Chief Superintendent Neil Hutchison, of Northumbria Police, said: “Alcohol, drugs and hundreds of partygoers is a recipe for disaster.”
