SUMMER HIGHWAYS TO HELL!

Midweek Sport - - NEWS -

DRIVERS are being warned to expect huge delays this weekend as around NINE MILLION vehicles descend on the roads and motorways for the start of the summer getaway.

Saturday will be busiest, say the RAC, with 3.4m journeys – but Friday could also see clogged-up roads as travellers compete with evening commuters.

On Sunday, some 2.8m drivers are expected to head out for holidays, or for a day trip.

The RAC predicts 37 million leisure trips in total for the first two weeks of the school holidays.

Families hoping to begin their holiday by driving off into the sun could also be disappointed.

The Met Office said the UK will be “generally unsettled” on Friday and Saturday, with “showers or longer spells of rain”.

More than 200 roadworks on motorways and A-roads are also planned.

However, Highways England said much of the work would be carried out overnight.
