New Doc­tor clip seen 16m times

THE video un­veil­ing Jodie Whit­taker as the 13th Doc­tor has been watched more than 16 mil­lion times on­line.

The 60-sec­ond clip aired on BBC One af­ter the Wim­ble­don men’s fi­nal on Sun­day and was posted on­line via the broad­caster’s Face­book page and the Doc­tor Who Twit­ter ac­count.

On Face­book it has been watched al­most 10m times while the 2.5m views on the tweeted clip – which it­self has been retweeted 73,000 times – make it the most suc­cess­ful Doc­tor Who tweet of all time, the BBC said.

Piers Wenger, con­troller of BBC Drama, said: “To see the over­whelm­ingly pos­i­tive re­sponse to the news that Jodie Whit­taker will star as the Thir­teenth Doc­tor, and know that the re­veal has had over 16 mil­lion views on­line so far, is just phe­nom­e­nal.”

In the clip, Whit­taker (above) is seen hooded and walk­ing towards the Tardis in a for­est be­fore re­veal­ing her­self to the cam­era.
