New Doctor clip seen 16m times
THE video unveiling Jodie Whittaker as the 13th Doctor has been watched more than 16 million times online.
The 60-second clip aired on BBC One after the Wimbledon men’s final on Sunday and was posted online via the broadcaster’s Facebook page and the Doctor Who Twitter account.
On Facebook it has been watched almost 10m times while the 2.5m views on the tweeted clip – which itself has been retweeted 73,000 times – make it the most successful Doctor Who tweet of all time, the BBC said.
Piers Wenger, controller of BBC Drama, said: “To see the overwhelmingly positive response to the news that Jodie Whittaker will star as the Thirteenth Doctor, and know that the reveal has had over 16 million views online so far, is just phenomenal.”
In the clip, Whittaker (above) is seen hooded and walking towards the Tardis in a forest before revealing herself to the camera.
