Mary takes on Bake Off in TV bat­tle

MARY Berry is set to go head-to-head with the new Great Bri­tish Bake-Off with her own cook­ery show.

A search for a se­cond judge to join the for­mer Great Bri­tish Bake Off star on Bri­tain’s Best Cook con­tin­ues.

In­stead of fo­cus­ing on bak­ing, Mary, 82 ( above), will cast her eye on home cook­ing – from a tra­di­tional roast to an “in­ge­nious twist on chicken curry or an ir­re­sistible choco­late pud­ding”.

A group of 10 con­tes­tants will be asked to serve “the most per­fect ver­sion of dishes that de­fine mod­ern Bri­tish home cook­ing” and “cre­ate their spe­cial take on well-loved clas­sics” in the eight-part se­ries.

Mary said: “I am never more at home than when I have my judg­ing hat on.

“This se­ries is go­ing to en­cour­age proper home cook­ing – which I have al­ways cham­pi­oned – and I can­not wait to start.” SIR Arthur Co­nan Doyle, who cre­ated Sher­lock Holmes, was a founder and the first goal­keeper of foot­ball club Portsmouth FC. me! meFac­tFactme!
