News from the clubs in the area
ALL four Southport Rotary Clubs worked together again this year to man the garden to raise awareness of ShelterBox for the four days of the Southport Flower Show.
ShelterBox is a disaster relief charity that provides shelter, warmth and dignity to those who have been effected by disaster worldwide.
In conjunction with Rotary, they deliver boxes of aid, each of which provides shelter for a family of 10 people.
The response teams accompany the boxes into disaster zones, responding to earthquakes, volcanoes, hurricanes flood cyclones, tsunami or conflict. The theme was the Curiosity Garden. ADG David Hartley, of Meols Rotary Club, spearheaded the planning of the garden and with his wife, Rotarian and secretary of the club Yvonne, along with President Ged Whittle and his wife Lisa, President Elect, and members of the club and sponsors, produced a masterpiece on an Alice in Wonderland theme with a full ShelterBox as its centrepiece.
The garden was near the Duke Street entrance.
Many visitors to the show were drawn to the garden and every day was filled with interested parties.
Rotary members had a wonderful time talking about ShelterBox and taking enquiries for a Shelterbox Speaker to come to their groups or organisations.
Leaflets and a full box were available for visitors to see and information about the countries where the boxes have gone.
More information can be found on the website www.shelterbox.org or for information email email@example.com.
If you would like a speaker, please ring Gerry and Pam Heaslip on 0151-9315885.
David Hartley has recently done an abseil from the top of the Anglican Cathedral in Liverpool and raised more than £800 for ShelterBox.
If you would like to donate, please contact David on www.justgiving.com D-HARTLEY2. or call in to Bispham Road Post Office.
Rotarians enjoy working in the community making a difference.
