Our soaraway charity success
IF YOU were looking to the skies on Thursday, September 7, you may have seen a flurry of balloons flying through the air.
This spectacle was the beginning of the Big Charity Balloon Race kindly organised by Tesco and McDonald’s, in Kew.
The music rooms at Kew Woods Primary School became balloon headquarters and the flurry of activity started early.
A lovely team of staff from both companies worked hard to get the balloons blown-up, tagged and ready … all 1,000 of them!
Luckily, it was dry and blustery, perfect lift-off weather, as the children circled around the launch pad. We all joined in with the countdown and the balloons were released to lots of cheering and laughter!
A huge thank you to everyone who got involved and helped to raise a wonderful £1,032 for Queenscourt Hospice and North West Spinal Unit. This fantastic amount will make such a positive difference to both local causes.
As small local charities, it’s incredible to have the support of two national companies.
Both Lesley Kirkbride, Tesco’s community champion, and Alex Chattaway, McDonald’s store manager, were delighted with how well the event went.
Alex explained: “Here at McDonald’s, Kew, we regularly raise money for the Alder Hey Ronald McDonald Children Home. However, we have on this occasion decided to choose a local community project to help. We have about 150 staff members and the business is open 24 hours a day.
“We often serve lots of people visiting Queenscourt and the local spinal unit, so we are really excited about making these new links with the local community.”
Lesley added: “It was a great atmosphere and wonderful to see all the kids, and grown-ups, too, so excited to be involved. big
“We’re now all looking forward to seeing how far they go and announcing our winner!”
The winner will be announced in January 2018, so watch this space.
