Pimm’s at the ready for great day out
OLDER People Day, which recognises the positive impact our elderly residents contribute to society, saw hundreds of enthusiastic older members of our community gather to celebrate thanks to One Vision Housing.
The celebrations at Firwood Bootle Cricket Club brought together some of Liverpool’s most sought-after acts to uplift and entertain a room full of local elderly residents.
Cake, Pimm’s and an afternoon jam-packed with entertainment provided locals with a day to remember.
The event’s very entertaining schedule included a performance from The Uk-a-teers, a tribute from volunteer organisation Sefton O.P.E.R.A and a showstopping act from local comedian PJ Laine.
One Vision Housing resident David Parker, was there with his wife.
Mr Parker said: “I moved to the area from Plymouth and find these events a current highlight in my life.
“My wife doesn’t get out much either so it’s excellent that One Vision Housing provides such a great event that us elderly people can attend and enjoy.
“The organisation has changed my life considerably for the better.”
Sefton O.P.E.R.A founder Ann Mardall was also there. She said: “I do work myself throughout the community and I can’t express how much One Vision Housing make each resident feel valued.
“In recent years I have established a fantastic partnership with the organisation – they’re truly inspirational.
“Events like today enable those who may not be able to get out or have somewhere to go, with an opportunity to socialise and feel like a valued member of our community.”
Event organiser and One Vision Housing employee Ann Owens commented: “The event is a wonderful way for our residents to socialise, engage with us and ultimately feel like valued members of our society.
“These are the people who have contributed so much to our community over the years, it is only right that we show our appreciation.
“Our event this year even welcomed one of our wonderful residents who is over the age of 100.
“The event was a complete success with tea, Pimms and cake flowing.”
