Bigger than ever! Get switched on for the town’s best Christmas yet
IT’S almost here!
This Sunday (November 19) sees the biggest and brightest Christmas lights switch-on we’ve seen in the town.
An expanded lights installation; more entertainment throughout the afternoon; and the strongest line-up for the switchon that we think there’s ever been all promise to make Sunday’s event the perfect start to Christmas in Southport.
It’s all backed up with advertising support from Smooth FM and a new digital marketing campaign that’s been developed with funding support from the Southport Business and Tourism Network.
This Christmas also sees the return of two past attractions: the BID-funded ice rink (bigger and better than before) on Town Hall Gardens and Sefton Council’s traditional Christmas market which, this year, features new wooden chalets.
The ice rink officially opens on December 1 and will stay in place until the New Year whilst the Christmas market will run daily from November 23 until December 17.
There’s lots more going on too across town, with pantomimes in our three theatres and Santa’s Grotto in the Wayfarers Arcade.
That’s not forgetting the many other Christmas specials organised by our many restaurants, bars, and clubs.
Our Ambassadors will be playing a huge role over Christmas. They’ll be “opening the door to the town” (as one local business so neatly expressed it to me last week) welcoming visitors and tourists alike as they come to Southport over the Christmas period.
A key part of their role is to showcase everything that’s going on so let them know if you’ve got any special activities that you’d like them to promote.
Our Christmas campaign is the single biggest investment we make in the town because it’s the busiest time of the year for most of our levy payers.
Since the BID was launched in 2014 we’ve taken the campaign to new levels each year with more lights, a bigger switch-on and stage presence, and increased marketing.
This year’s campaign will be our fourth which means that we’ve got just one more Christmas to go before our current term comes to an end in October 2019.
