Hotel eyes up three tourism awards
SOUTHPORT’S Ramada Plaza is in line for three major awards at this week’s Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards.
The hotel, on the Promenade, won Hotel Of The Year in 2017, and is hoping to retain its crown when the ceremony takes place at St George’s Hall, in Liverpool, on Thursday.
The venue is currently undergoing a multi-million pound transformation and is due to launch as the first Bliss boutique hotel later this year.
Bliss is also in talks with Sefton Council to take over the operation of neighbouring Southport Theatre & Convention Centre on a three-year lease from June 1.
Formby Hall Golf Resort & Spa has also been shortlisted in the Hotel of The year category, alongside Aloft Liverpool; Malmaison Liverpool; Pullman Liverpool; Titanic Hotel Liverpool; Doubletree by Hilton Hotel & Spa, Hilton Liverpool City Centre and Mercure Liverpool Atlantic Tower Hotel.
The Ramada Plaza Southport is also in the running for The People’s Choice award, and the Tourism Stars of The Year category.
General manager Enda Rylands said: “It is great to have earned ourselves a few good nominations after another phenomenally successful year for our hotel and to see our amazing team recognised for all the things they have achieved for the Liverpool City Region Visitor economy.
“The entire team works incredibly hard all year round and love to be recognised for their efforts, they love what they do; each day they create experiences that delight, surprise and can be shared with the world.
“This is just the start and we have incredible plans for the coming year that will have a positive impact on Southport and the social and economic wellbeing of the whole community.
“The hotel is undergoing a transformation into the UK’s first Bliss Hotel which is truly stunning while retaining the customer experience that we have become renowned for.
“Following our acquisition in June last year of the site freehold, the wider waterfront is also beginning to take shape, transforming into a national leisure destination which everyone in Southport can be proud off.”
The black-tie award ceremony recognises excellence across the city region’s tourism and hospitality industry.
The ceremony will be hosted by TV chef, restaurateur and former Southport College lecturer Simon Rimmer.
He said: “The tourism and hospitality industry across the region has developed rapidly over the last few years and these awards provide an excellent opportunity to celebrate this success.
“Also, being on home ground makes the awards that bit extra special.” For more details about the Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards, visit www.lcrtourismawards. com or call 0844 809 4399.
