Fast food giant to take over former restaurant site
ANEW McDonald’s restaurant is set to open in Formby.
The site formerly belonging to MJ’s Steakhouse and Diner on Altcar Road could soon be converted into a new branch of McDonalds.
A planning application has been submitted to Sefton Council seeking approval for the development.
According to the application, if the plan were to go ahead, the car park would lose 20 car parking spaces, and “minor amendments” would be made to the building.
It would also create “at least” 65 full and part-time jobs.
This comes after MJ’s 24-hour drive through, which was a 250-seater restaurant, unexpectedly closed its doors in 2016.
The venue proved popular with locals, offering a breakfast and evening menu of steaks, chicken and lamb dishes as well as a number of entertainment nights for locals.
Now, the restaurant giant is hoping to give the venue a new lease of life.
A McDonald’s spokesperson said: “We can confirm that we have submitted a planning application for a new Drive Thru restaurant in Formby and look forward to working with Sefton Council on our plans.
“If approved the restaurant would create at least 65 full and part-time jobs.”
