Cocktail challenge aims to find best bar none
SOME of Britain’s most talented flair bartenders are set to compete at Southport Food and Drink Festival.
The cocktail competition will be held on Saturday, June 2, as part of the annual festival at Victoria Park, which runs over the first weekend in June.
The Southport Flair ‘N’ Funk Mobile Bars & Cocktail Championship will begin at 12.30pm and has been organised by local firm Flair ‘N’ Funk, which provides mobile bar hire and cocktail flair bartenders for events throughout the UK.
The business is owned by Southport couple, Paul and Chantelle Drewery, who also own Spenders Bar, on West Street.
The competition will see 10 of the best bartenders in the country – including four from Southport – battling to win the trophy and cash prize for first place.
This will be the fourth year the couple have held the event at the Southport Food and Drink Festival, and they claim that it grows in popularity each time.
Speaking of the up-coming event, Paul Drewery, 47, said: “The event attracts more and more people each year, and they really enjoy watching the show.
“Last year, around 400 people came to watch, and we’re hoping for more this year.”
After each of the ten contestants have performed, three finalists will be selected by a panel of three judges.
The finalists will then go head-to-head and the overall winner will be selected by a vote among the crowd.
Entry to the annual festival is free of charge, and a record number of stall-holders looks set to attend the popular event this year.
Paul added: “We can’t wait for the Southport Food and Drink Festival, it’s one of the highlights of our year!
“It’s always an absolute sell-out on our stand, with some fantastic speciality cocktails, festival music from some superb DJs and, fingers crossed, some beautiful weather!
“We are the minifestival within the festival.”
