Investigation launched into shooting
Police say midnight gun attack was targeted at Southport home:
AWINDOW was smashed by a suspected gunshot in a late-night attack on a Southport home. Police are investigating what was believed to be a targeted attack at the home, on Bispham Road, shortly after midnight on Thursday morning. The occupants were in the property at the time of the suspected shooting but no-one was injured. Officers were called out just after midnight following reports damage had been caused to the upstairs front window and a downstairs window of a property. The damage was consistent with a firearms discharge. Officers closed off a section of the road for several hours while the incident was investigated. An investigation is under way and house-to- house enquiries are ongoing in the local area. Detective Chief Inspector Gayle Rooney said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of Bispham Road around midnight that night who saw anybody or anything suspicious to contact us. I am particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have seen a silver motor vehicle, possibly a Volvo, driving around the area prior to the incident.
‘‘I want to reassure our communities that we take incidents of this nature very seriously and the use of firearms will not be tolerated on the streets of Merseyside. Thankfully, no-body was hurt during this incident, but it is important that anybody who may have information comes forward so we can find the person or people responsible.”
Anyone with information about this incident or guncrime in their area is asked to DM @MerPolCC, call 101 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
