A POPULAR Southport bus route could be reinstated after four years.

The service used to loop through Kew estate, but was rerouted along Town Lane by Arriva in 2014.

Passengers who live on the large housing development entirely are now bypassed entirely and many residents face a walk of 400 metres or so to reach the closest bus stop. The housing estate has expanded significantly, since the route was first altered, with some of those living there now having to walk a considerable distance to their nearest stop.

The chair of Merseytravel, Liam Robinson, last week visited the area to assess the case. He said: “Due to the expansion of the development there’s a strong case to reinstate the service.”

An Arriva spokesperson added: “We’re committed to listening to the needs of its passengers, and welcomes any conversation that the council wishes to have that will enhance the services that we provide for customers.”
