Expansion plans for town hotel
THE Premier Inn hotel in Southport is to undergo a £1.8m expansion. The chain, which owns the hotel at Ocean Plaza, is planning to build a three-storey extension to create an additional 21 bedrooms.
The hotel, which also contains a Brewers Fayre restaurant, is within walking distance of the town centre, beach and convention centre and Premier Inn says that the expansion plans reflect the “great demand” that it enjoys from people visiting the town for holidays or business.
A planning application has been formally submitted to Sefton Council and the proposed work would result in the loss of 18 parking spaces at Ocean Plaza.
But the company said it was confident this will create no issues due to the “vast number” of spaces available on the rest of the complex.
David Christmas, project and programme manager at Premier Inn, said: “We have recently submitted a planning application to Sefton Council to expand the Southport Central Premier Inn at Ocean Plaza by 21 bedrooms.
“If approved, this would increase the total number of hotel bedrooms to 115.
“Our plans to extend the hotel reflect strong demand for Premier Inn bedrooms from our customers looking to stay in Southport on business or for leisure trips throughout the year.
“Whitbread, Premier Inn’s parent company, will invest more than £1.8m in the extension and we anticipate it will create up to five new jobs. We will focus our recruitment within Southport and the surrounding area.
“We are extremely excited about this application and hope the council supports our ambitions for the site and the opportunities it will bring to the town.”
