Queenscourt Hospice Column Time to thank our volunteers
WHAT is Volunteers Week? Volunteers Week is a time to say thank you for the fantastic contribution they make.
During the week, hundreds of events and celebrations take place across the country, saying thank you to volunteers and recognising their invaluable and diverse contribution to the UK.
The annual campaign, established in 1984, recognises the contribution all those who give their free time make to our communities every day.
For many charities the week will also be a chance to showcase the range of volunteering opportunities on offer.
Fairs and other events will encourage people to try volunteering for the first time and enable people to find out how, through helping out, they can make a difference to a cause they are passionate about.
Volunteers contribute an estimated £22.6bn to the UK economy.
Some 20m people in the UK help out each year.
There are 165,801 voluntary organisations in the UK, many of whom rely on unpaid assistance.
Lots of volunteering also takes place within the public and private sector.
For example, there are an estimated three million people carrying out that funcion in health and care.
Research has found that people who give their free time are happier, feel better and live longer!
Here at Queenscourt our volunteers are vital to the work we do.
Without them Queenscourt simply couldn’t offer its services to our local community.
On a weekly basis Queenscourt needs 600 of them just to function.
Our annual celebration event is scheduled for June 13 where we will have the opportunity to thank and celebrate our wonderful team.
We can never have enough volunteers!
If you think you may have some free time to offer us, no matter how little, please get in touch with our coordinator of volunteers, Katy Pellow, on 01704 544645 for a chat about how you could support your local hospice.
Throughout the week, look out for some of our volunteers on our Facebook @QueenscourtHospiceSouthport, Twitter @QCHospice and Instagram @queenscourthospice pages or search for #volunteersweek
