Three for the price of one – festival time in town
IF YOU love chilli, beer or gin – or even all three – then you’re going to love three events taking place in Southport town centre this weekend.
Southport’s Pop Up Chilli Fest makes its return for a second year this Saturday (June 16) 10am5pm in the Town Hall Gardens.
Discover some of the best chilli producers from around the UK exhibiting exclusive and unique products like mild to crazy extreme chilli sauces, naga cooking sauces, chilli plants, chilli merchandise and street food.
Things heat up with a live chilli eating contest mid-afternoon.
You can also expect live music with Sandgrounder Radio.
The event is brought to Southport by Chilli Fest UK with support from Southport BID.
Southport BID CEO Hugh Evans said: “We were pleased when Chilli Fest organisers asked to bring their hugely successful touring event to the town.
“It adds extra colour and entertainment to the weekend and brings extra visitors into the town.”
The third Beer Street also takes this weekend, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (June 15-17), showcasing the best of local, national and international breweries with more than 80 beers on offer.
The event is hosted by Tap & Bottle, with the beer shop again taking over Cambridge Arcade.
There are no advance ticket sales, visitors pay for entry when they arrive at the festival and are welcome to come and go as they please throughout the day.
Luke Randles from Tap & Bottles said: “The idea was to create more of a modern craft beer festival, which is something we haven’t had in this town before.
“The festival takes place at Tap & Bottles and out into Cambridge Arcade, making for a great atmosphere and more of a street party vibe than your average beer festival.”
Remedy Gin Bar in the Town Hall Gardens will also be hosting its Gin Lane mini-festival on the same weekend to offer an alternative for those who are not beer fans.
