TWO quirky new bars are to open on Lord Street, following a multi-million-pound transformation.

The new venues, Potting Shed Bar & Gardens and Firepit Smokehouse & Sports Bar are on the site of the former Sandgrounder pub.

The Sandgrounder closed in October and has since been transformed by concept bar specialists Ormsborough Ltd, which already owns and operates five Potting Sheds and two Firepits in Yorkshire, and has spent £2.6m creating its first site with the two bars under one roof.

An official VIP launch night will be held tomorrow (Wednesday, June 13) from 6pm, and the Visiter has been given an exclusive first look at what the venues are expected to look like.

The bars have created more than 50 jobs and guests attending the VIP opening can expect to enjoy a selection of drinks, canapes and live entertainment.

Potting Shed Bar & Gardens, which has a quirky outdoors-toindoors garden theme, will be on the ground floor and specialises in craft beers, cocktails and artisan spirits, and freshly homemade food.

Firepit will be on the first floor and has Americana decor incorporating classic car parts, neon signage and a custom-built Airstreamstyle aluminium caravan for private booth dining. Its menu focuses on US-style dishes from an in-house smoker and wood-burning grill.

Sports will be shown throughout Firepit and the main screen is a 4x2 metre LED wall. It is hoped that the new venues will bring something new and exciting to Southport’s bar scene.

Hugh Evans, of Southport BID, said: “This is great news for Southport. The fact that the group is confident of generating a return on their investment is good for local jobs, local business, and the wider economy in general.”

General manager for The Potting Shed and Firepit Southport, Garry Parr, said they are excited to be able to show off the new venue after months of refurbishment: “Being on Lord Street means we’ve been carrying out the transformation on Southport’s busiest road, thousands of people pass every day, and we know there’s been real anticipation to see it.

“We’re really proud of what we’ve achieved and it looks fantastic, especially the roof terrace which is something quite special, so now we can’t wait for the launch party and for everyone to experience it for themselves.”
