No wedding gifts...
so we can help animals
FRESHFIELDS animal rescue supporters Lita O’Neill and her fiancé Steve McLean got married recently and to celebrate their happy day, they asked their friends and family to donate to Freshfields Animal Rescue, instead of buying wedding presents!
Thie couple raised £900 to help provide food, medical treatment and a safe place to stay at the rescue and rehoming centre in Ince Blundell.
Lita (now Mrs McLean) came down to Freshfields to deliver their donation in person, and to take some photos to show her guests how their money will be changing the lives of abused, abandoned and unwanted animals in Merseyside.
Lita said: “The rescue is close to our hearts as we have, and still do, rescue small animals from the centre.
“To enable us to care for the animals, Lyn Gawith, head of the small animals unit, has been on hand with advice on care, feeding and housing.
“Lyn and all the staff go that extra mile for the animals.
“Some of the animals have endured cruelty, abuse, abandonment and the staff show professionalism, kindness, dedication and determination to find these animals their forever homes.
“I hope our gesture encourages more people to donate, adopt or even spare some time to help out at fundraising events.
“These animals need us, the rescue relies on people’s generosity and kindness to keep funding the centre.”
Naomi Clarke, community fundraiser for Freshfields, said: “This is a fantastic gesture by Lita and Steve, and we want to say a big thank you, and to wish them every joy for their future.
“They have shared their happiness with the animals here at the rescue centre, and every penny will give new hope and the chance of a brighter future for them.”
The animals always need your support, and there are so many creative ways in which you can help!
