‘WORTING TAKE 2’

-

This second take on Worting Junction/battledown Flyover, slightly narrower and 2ft longer, increases scope both visually and operationally. Gradients remain at 1‑in‑40, though the arrangement is slightly different. Additional length creates more dramatic effect for the flyover. The gradients, all travelling clockwise, are as follows: A-B falling 1in in a 40in run (1:40) C-D rising 1in in a 40in run (1:40) E-F falling 2in in an 80in run (1:40) G-H rising 2in in an 80in run (1:40) B-I rising 1in in a 40in run (1:40) Note that all track from F-A, travelling clockwise, and the entire locomotive shed, except the rising gradient from G, also clockwise, is on the level. As originally drawn, I’d envisaged the opposite side of Battledown Flyover as a non‑scenic fiddleyard with tracks J and K earmarked for two‑car DEMU storage and the rest for steam locomotives, available for pulling coaching sets held at any two or three of five positions around the layout (see smaller layout operational plan).
