Do what you love
neil has been modelling for over 25 years, but it was his wife, Lacey, who finally convinced him to realise his dream and build layouts as a job. Despite selling several of his exhibition layouts and accepting the odd commission, neil had never entertained the idea of building layouts full‑time. but that all changed at an exhibition in Mansfield. “Lacey came with me to the exhibition,” says neil. “When i managed to sell ‘Werrington road’ there, she immediately identified that i might be onto something.” The next step was to come up with a company name and set up a website. people took note, and neil began to take commissions as The Little Lay‑ out company for the very first time. The problem was, it was working a little too well... “i was working in my spare time, from home,” he explains. “but, it quickly outgrew the house, so we decided to bite the bullet, open our own prem‑ ises, and commit to a full‑time business.” The Little Layout company now consists of neil’s work‑ shop and a model shop ‑ it even has its own club.
