ACRYLIC PAINTS

Acrylics offer rapid drying time and minimal odour, and you can wash the brushes in soapy water. Some brands require the use of specific thinners. Tamiya’s thinners are handy for removing most acrylic paint formulae. Other brands, such as Vallejo, Revell, Humbrol and Lifecolor, are water-based and can be thinned with their own brand of thinners or water. Application is effective by hand brush, sponge or airbrush. Tamiya paints are good for airbrushing, while others can be prone to clogging. A drop of retarding fluid (Vallejo) helps water-based acrylics to flow more freely through an airbrush, reducing the risk of clogging. Recommended brands: Lifecolor, Vallejo, Tamiya, Revell
