Model Rail (UK) - - OPENING THE BOX -

No encounter with Allan was ever anything less than memorable. Not so much a modeller as a magician, he’d create stunning models in the time it would take most of us to figure out how to open the box. He was at the centre of some of my favourite (but unhealthiest) days working on Model Rail. One of my favourite memories is being trapped in the back of his garage-cum-workshop for hours on a sweltering summer day, holding up a giant piece of white polystyrene as a reflector while Martyn Barnwell photographed one of Allan’s masterpieces and Allan liberally sprayed all sorts of (possibly toxic) materials around on his next project. Madder than a wasp trapped under a pint glass, he was also great company, full of energy and always ready with a joke or a story. Captivating, multi-talented and truly inspirational, he will be much missed.
