…ad­mir­ers of mu­si­cal theatre were de­lighted at re­ports in Va­ri­ety that the Seat­tle Reper­tory Theatre are plan­ning a ‘grunge era’ mu­si­cal. Songs by NIR­VANA, Soundgar­den and Smashing Pump­kins (right) are ex­pected to fea­ture – let’s hope Mud­honey and Tad get a look in too …out­rage of a dif­fer­ent kind last month when the out­put of com­mu­nity sta­tion Mans­field FM was il­le­gally seized by a guer­rilla broad­caster, who played IVOR BIGGUN’s onanis­tic 1978 hit The Winker’s Song (Mis­print) eight times in June. No ar­rests yet, but Ivor, AKA Doc Cox, has pre­vi­ously de­fended the ditty to MOJO, say­ing, “It wasn’t filthy or coarse – I wasn’t GG Allin” …ac­cord­ing to ex- Queen roadie Peter Hince in Neil Cos­sar’s book I Was There (Red Planet, £12.99), the QUEEN/DAVID BOWIE ses­sion that yielded Un­der Pres­sure in 1981 also in­cluded ver­sions of the Mott The Hoople-recorded All The Young Dudes and All The Way From Mem­phis, among other tracks.
