RVNG INTL/FREEDOM TO SPEND. CD/DL/LP Debut release on Pete Swanson’s new imprint – a reissue of an ’80s minimal electro-wave head-trip from US animator and sound designer.

ORIGINALLY RELEASED in 1986, under her married name of Michele Musser, and produced with a grant from The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, Eye Chant is a strange and wonderful LP that inhabits a glittering sound world between the air-light kosmische ambience of Germany’s Sky Records, New York electro, the rhythmic and vocal experiments of Laurie Anderson, the lucid waveforms of Suzanne Ciani, and the avant club grooves of Arthur Russell. Yet, in its playful manipulation of sound and language, a pulling apart of the very influences that inform it, Eye Chant also sounds ruthlessly modern, with tracks like Proteus And The Marlin and 100% Bridal Illusion pointing towards the melodic abstractions of Aphex Twin and the conceptual collage-pop of Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, while retaining a vital powerful identity all of its own.
