That moment of realisation…

Rosie Blake, 34, author of The Hygge Holiday (£7.99, Sphere), lives in Reading with husband Ben and son Barnaby, 12 months. ‘When my husband Ben got in from work, he hardly had time to loosen his tie before I handed him a handwritten hangman clue. That morning I’d taken a positive pregnancy test and had waited impatiently all day to tell him. We’d been trying for a baby and, while I hoped Ben would share my excitement on hearing the news, I couldn’t predict exactly how he’d react. He went along with the game and I could tell he was baffled. He eventually worked out ‘I AM’, and that’s when his face changed. ‘Are you?!’ he asked, his face lighting up. I nodded, and we burst into laughter, hugging and kissing. Seeing Ben’s surprise and happiness took my breath away and that’s when it hit me: “Wow, we're going to be a family”. Ben never finished the puzzle, but I recently made a sweet discovery – for over a year, he’s kept it folded up in his wallet.’
